Lombardia Trophy 2024: Glenn Posts Career-best Short Program to Lead Sakamoto

A New Season and a New Beginning at Lombardia Trophy 2024

The Lombardia Trophy 2024 kicked off the new figure skating season with a bang as skaters took to the ice in Bergamo, Italy. Among them was American Amber Glenn, who delivered a career-best performance in the short program to take the lead over Japan's Kaori Sakamoto.

Glenn Dominates With Career-Best Performance

Glenn, who finished eighth at the 2023 World Championships, showcased her growth and determination in her short program. She opened with a triple Lutz-triple toe combination, then landed a triple flip and a double Axel. Her performance was highlighted by her elegant skating skills and expressive interpretation of the music.

Her score of 74.81 points not only set a new personal best but also put her in a strong position heading into the free skate. She leads Sakamoto by a narrow margin of just 0.89 points.

Sakamoto Remains a Contender

Despite finishing second, Sakamoto delivered a strong performance of her own. She opened with a triple flip-triple toe combination, followed by a triple Lutz and a double Axel. Her program was characterized by her trademark artistry and flow.

With a score of 73.92 points, Sakamoto remains a contender for the gold medal. Her experience and consistency will be valuable assets in the free skate.
