Minnesota's First American Indian Woman to Hold Statewide Office Ties the Knot

Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan Marries Former MPR Host Tom Weber

Vice President Kamala Harris Announces Governor Walz as Running Mate, Elevating Flanagan's Profile

St. Paul, MN - Minnesota's Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan made history over the weekend when she married former Minnesota Public Radio host Tom Weber. Flanagan, an enrolled member of the White Earth Band of Ojibwe, is the first American Indian woman to hold statewide office in the United States. She was first elected to her current post in 2018.

The wedding, which took place at the historic James J. Hill House in St. Paul, was attended by a who's who of Minnesota politics and media. Vice President Kamala Harris, who recently announced Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, was among the guests. Walz's selection of Walz as his running mate has elevated Flanagan's profile and is likely to give her a national platform.

Flanagan and Weber have been dating for several years. They met through mutual friends in the Twin Cities media scene. Weber is a well-known and respected journalist who has hosted several popular shows on MPR. He is currently the host of the station's "Midday" program.

The couple has not yet announced any plans for starting a family. However, Flanagan has said that she would like to have children someday. If she does, she will be the first American Indian woman to give birth while holding statewide office.
